Telephone

There is no RJ11 jacks in the address. This is because Verizon will not provide you with POTS (Plain Ordinary Telephone Service) options. Since POTS is no longer supported, there is no need to run such lines. If a tenant wishes to have a home telephone service, they will acquire an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) which will connect your POTS phone to your choice SIP/VOIP provider. The phone plugs into the ATA, and the ATA plugs into an RJ45 jack. Since every wall will have RJ45 jacks, it would be pretty convenient to set the ATA anywhere the tenant needs a telephone connection.

If you require multiple phones to ring when someone calls you, it would be best to acquire a DECT (Digitally Enhanced Cordless Technology) phone with the appropriate number of handsets you would require. Since most of my units are 2 bedrooms, it would make sense to have 3-4 phones. A phone can be setup in the living room, home office, and each bedroom. As for the ATA, there are many companies that will provide an ATA either for free, or at a cost. You would be locked to their phone service, so if you decide they are no longer needed, you still spent money on their service. An unlocked ATA, and choosing a provider that will support open SIP standards will be in your best option. This requires to be a little savvy, but it can work.
