Why No Gas?

Simply put, gas is obsolete. Gas can only be used for 3 things for the general consumer. This will be cooking, heating, and hot water – all of which can be done with electricity. You need electricity anyways, so there will be no need to have to deal with 2 bills when you can deal with one. Since every unit that requires the tenant to pay for electricity has solar panels, this means that the electricity bill will be lower, and may offset the cost of what your gas would be.

Gas is a finite resource. This means it will eventually go beyond peak, and when that happens, gas will start to get more expensive. This could be fine for me if I was to acquire my own realty company, but my units will cater to those that are low income, and having a higher gas bill is not something that would benefit the tenant. Since there are other options for electricity, the tenant can choose their supplier, and make the best choice for themselves.

Gas is also explosive. A spark near a gas leak can explode destroying not only the building the explosion happened at, but the neighboring buildings as well. This is a safety issue now, and not just a convenience issue. A gas line might have been an acceptable risk a long time ago, but with electricity being able to eliminate the need for a gas line, this risk is no longer acceptable to me. In my opinion, people should start to move from gas to electricity.
